Columbus, nicknamed "The Arch City", was named after explorer Christopher Columbus. It earned the nickname of The Arch City through the dozens of arches that spanned High Street at the end of 1999. These arches, formerly wooden, have been reconstructed using metal, and have lights mounted to their underside. They exist solely in the Short North district today. |
| Columbus is the home of the largest college campus in the United States, The Ohio State University. OSU has also been ranked the best public university in Ohio.
