Registry Edits to Correct Microsoft Uninstall Problem

Backup the registry (see Windows Help), run regedit and navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\control\MediaProperties\PrivateProperties\Joystick\OEM

In the list of devices you should find one or more listings for Microsoft’s products. Highlight each, and check for a value for OEMData and OEMName. Blank entries indicate a bad node. Simply highlight the offending device(s) and delete from the registry.

Exit the registry and restart your machine, and all should be well.
