One or more joysticks, directional pads (D-pads), proportional buttons, or throttle or rudder controls. These control cursor or game character movement along one of these sets of axes:
X-Y—primary directional control for up-down/left-right movement.
U-V—individual games may assign these axes to control types of movement—e.g., pitch, roll, yaw, or view control: looking left/right (U) and looking up/down (V).
Z or R—throttle or rudder control.

Note: The dual proportional flippers on some game controllers, such as those on Xterminator Force, can be configured to control a single axis in one of two ways: Z or R With both flippers. For example, if you choose Z, you can throttle up with the right flipper button and throttle down with the left button. Z-right / Z-left With only one flipper. For example, if you choose Z-right, the right flipper button controls speed by itself—press down to accelerate and lift up on the button to decelerate—and the left flipper is disabled. |
