Aeris Gainsborough BETA 1.0 by The Great Matsutzu Built using Kung Fu Man (KFM) Template Character by Elecbyte Constructed using Fighter Factory by Virtualtek Sprites edited by The Great Matsutzu Compatible with: Both the last official Mugen (DOS 4.14.01) and the unnofficial Winmugen. Disclaimer: I do not own this character. Aeris/Aerith is a copywright of Squaresoft (Now SquareEnix) and character designer Tetsuya Nomura. Some sprite parts are copywright of Capcom and SNK. Bio: English voice: Mandy Moore (First Kingdom Hearts only), Mena Suvari. Japanese voice: Maaya Sakamoto (The voice present in this character is Maaya Sakamoto). Why did I make this character?: I just love her! When playing FF7 back in 1998, I just loved her characterization. - - Spoiler Alert!! - - I, like the millions of first-time-playthrough FF7 users was completley shocked and saddened by her death at the hands of Sephiroth. The death of this major character had a profound impact on the gaming world, and is considered to this day one of the most memorable game storyline twists. In a way, this character can be considered my tribute to Aeris. ^_^. I am aware of the translation difference of her name, and the version that seems to be currently in use by SquareEnix games currently. I tend use "Aeris" because at the time that was the translation when I played through the game (and after tons of play-throughs, it just stuck.) However, if you the user are more used to the "Aerith" romanization, by all means you can edit the .def file's displayname. What's in: -All required animations -Standard portrait by Eternaga ^_^ -Melty Blood Portrait -Special #:1- Lit 1 -Special #2- Ice 1 -Special #3- Fire 1 -Striker- Red XIII -Super Level 1- Healing Wind -Super Level 1- Seal Evil -Super Level 2- Fury Brand -Super Level 3- Pulse of Life -1 Win Pose, from FF7 -1 Intro -Vocals -Ten Palettes What may be added in a future release: -Specialized intro with my W.I.P. version of Tifa Lockheart. -Possible specialized intros with other of my characters (ie: WereGarurumon, etc). -Additional Supers to complete her limit Breaks from the original game. These are currently missing because of coding difficulties. If they can be resolved, these abilities will be added in a future update. So far what's missing of what she had from Final Fantasy VII is: *Level 2 Limit: Breath of the Earth Why missing: In FF7, Breath of the Earth cures all negative status effects. I can't see how that would be useful in Mugen. I thought of making it raise the Super Bar, but with Fury Brand being at the same Limit Level, it renders BOTE totally usless yet again... *Level 3 Limit: Planet Protector Why Missing: In FF7, this added invulnerablity to Aeris and her partner(s). While it wouldn't be too hard of a task to make Aeris herself invulnerable for a set ammount of time, I can't think of a way to code it that the partner would achieve this effect.. To cure the partner's health is done through a roundabout method with a hitdef, and I don't think invunerablity could be added to a partner through this method. In short, it *might* be impossible with the Mugen engine, I'll have to find out. *Level 4 Limit: Great Gospel Why Missing: Pretty much the same reason as Planet Protector, I can't figure out if it's possible to make the simul Partner gain the invulnerablity. The difference between Planet Protector and Great Gospel is that Great Gospel also recovers health back to 100%. Pulse of Life from Limit Level 3 also cures Aeris and her partner(s) to 100%. Specials: -Materia casting: The spell Aeris casts depends on the button that is pressed at the end of the combination. The spells she has are as follows: --Fire1 --Lit1 --Ice1 Striker: Red XIII. ~x+a or ~z+c Press x and a together or z and c and Red XIII will arrive to protect Aeris. He can be hit when he first runs in. Current Supers (Based off of Limit Breaks from FF7): Healing Wind: ~D, DB, B, y (Super Bar at 1) A very useful abiltiy, this cures a small ammount of life. In some very quick battles, it may seem a tad useless though. Seal Evil ~x+b (Super Bar at 1) This stops oppoents for a set ammount of time. Cannot hit jumping opponents, but cannot be guarded when on the ground Fury Brand: ~y+b (Super Bar at 2) -Raises the Super bar to full. Pulse of Life: ~D, DB, B, x (Super Bar at 3) By far Aeris's most useful Limit. It cures both the health of Aeris and her partner back to full! Tips for playing as Aeris: --A good Aeris player is one that uses strategy. ^_~. -Aeris's spells take a long time to cast (The same ammount as they did in FF7). For this reason, she tends to be weak in one-on-one battles. Aeris can be hit while she's casting the spell, and then the spell will be interrupted (I originally was going to omit hit boxes during the spell cast, but ultimatley decided that was far too cheap). Always keep this in mind. --Aeris works best as a simul partner. When playing as her, try to always position yourself behind your partner, you'll be able to cast spells and perform her Limits more successfully. --Use Aeris's staff in order to create distance between herself and her opponent. You may be able to sneak in a spell once you've done this. --Red XIII is often good cover for casting spells. Call him out and while he's charging the opponent, start a spell. Usually after he's conencted, your spell will then connect immediatley afterwards. --Aeris is especially weak against characters who throw fast projectiles (White Queen in particular has been a devestating opponent as I tested Aeris). Use your partner in simul mode for cover. Known Bugs: -Aeris's Healing attacks (Healing Wind) tends to cause the partner/player to stop what they're doing and drop down if he/she is in a jump attack state. It's overriding the get hit animation correctly, but not leaving the animation alone... Seems to be fine when stand or crouch attacking. -If your partner is in a state where he/she cannot be hit, they will not be healed by Aeris's healing limit breaks. I can think of no way to correct this. Thank You's: -Elecbyte, the maker of Mugen. Not only for the engine and the coding for the KFM template character, I also used some KFM sprite parts to make Aeris's walk! -Square-Enix and Tetsuya Nomura, for creating such an inspiring character. -VirtualTek, Without their Fighter Factory, I would be lost! -WinKawaks; Useful for helping get some basis sprite parts and effects. -Capcom and SNK for sprite parts. I love their games. -The makers of PSound, always helpful for getting sound effects. -The makers of Goldwave -Qhimm, Who's FF7SND Program I used to extract her sounds from FF7 PC. -Eternaga, for creating 6 palettes for Aeris (blue, green, teal, purple, black and violet!) as well as the beautiful portrait. -The Dreamslayer, who made open-source sprite packs for several Capcom and SNK characters. Many of the sprite parts I used to construct Aeris came from these. -Chrono_Strife, I used the lightening effect sprites from your Cloud for Aeris's Lit1 spell. Thank you for making it open-source ^_~. -Acey, who taught me how to handle Explods and let me use the sprites from Snake Eyes's Timber to create Aeris's Red XIII striker. -Sludge, who gave me great tips of how to have Explods and Helpers destroy selves and not stay onscreen or make Aeris clones or have Red XIII onscreen multiple times at once (lol). Thanks for being such a tremendous help! -Mature4Evr, thank you for your helpful advice on handling NotHitBy codes, as well as your kind words. -Cray, as always your Beta testing is superb. Thank you so much! -Excursion, who was a major help in fixing Aeris's Seal Evil so certain characters would not dissapear during it. -Sosa, who noticed certain characters were dissapearing when hit with Seal Evil. Thank you so much for bringing that to my attention! -Elix, for the helpful information about the affecteam for hitdef's which led to Aeris being able to cure her partner in Simul. -Tunglashor, also for information on curing hitdefs, and helping me realize a goof I made. -Violent Ken Masters and Marx, both of whom gave me some great ideas in my Aeris W.I.P. thread at Infinty. -Ruben- For the endless conversations and advice about Aeris. I came up with so many ideas during our dialogues. I can't thank you enough ^_~. -The Infinity Mugen Team, for their continued support. -Everyone at Mugen History for their support as well. -And you, for downloading ^_^.
