Review Date: Fri Jul 06, 2007 Reviewee/Player: Zak, creator of ZiGz Official Forum Version They Played: RoboGo Public Demo 12 (Beta 12-8) Current WIP Version: RoboGo Public Demo 13 (Beta 13-6) ------------------------------------------------------------------- Intro pretty nice, but it's really long, next time take into account that 5 seconds if qiute a while to wait in the game world. The menu is really cool but the menu object needs to be bigger. The levels were fun but seeing some more textures would be great. Also some sound and music will make the game look far less generic. And last, but not least, the controls are a PAIN to figure out. You really need to change it to the sort of control scheme I tend to use. Users find that way much more comfterable that having to twist turn and stretch their hand all over the key board. For instance, you can make S jump and D shoot and thus you never find yourself jumping when you want to shoot and shooting when you want to jump. But It's an otherwise great game. My Reply: - The intro is skippable . It will, though, be almost completely different with different music and an introduction to the storyline in the full game, and possibly soon if I get RBG around this midi incompatability in the near future. - I agree that the menu object needs to be bigger. I was just being lazy; it's basically makeshift for now. - I also agree with the more "textures" statement. I, and from what I can see, Chubble especially, tend to overuse the same kind of grounds and backgrounds. We don't have a large variety of backgrounds to use, hence the reason I'm almost desperate for a background artist, however Chubble has created a very nice new background for the upcoming demo . I also have planned another new type of ground, making three that no one has seen in any of the previous demos . Stage elements (environment-specific objects which the robo interacts with in some way) are another focus I'm going to emphasize upon sooner or later. - Music is underway - I've created three possible RBG songs already! I'll post links to them soon. Unfortunately, the version of GM we use for RBG seems, for some reason, to be incompatible with midis. I'd transfer to GM 6 but there have been terrible issues when converting to it before. As for sounds... I don't even know how to go about getting decent SFX. -Surprised you didn't comment on the enemies; to me, there seems to be a lack in variety of enemies. Know that I'm always open to new enemy ideas . I currently have at least 2 new enemies I'm planning to implement, and that's besides two existing ones that have never been in a previous public demo before. - Do you type normally? I don't mean that offensively but, the control scheme seems completely comfortable to me - it's at typing home position for the left hand and arrows for right. Anyways, RBG will eventually have customizable controls. I think. xP Also, Chubble has been kind enough to create an "Official" RBG forum, called the Bahoo forums. I'm thinking it's makeshift until we can get a forum onto decidel.net, but for now it can be considered the official (and only) RBG forum. The URL is http://bahoo.forumarena.com .
