Alias DirectConnect for STEP

Capabilities

When you install Alias DirectConnect, you can use it to import STEP files right away. No Alias DirectConnect license is required to import STEP files (*.stp or *.STEP) into Alias software.

Software prerequisites

· Install your Alias software.

· Export STEP files from the CAD software using AP203 or AP214 specifications.

Types of data imported

The following information is maintained when STEP files are imported:

· Precise geometric surface and topology information

· Data organization

· Tolerances and units

· Colors

Limitations

· Import options are not available.

· Construction lines, modeling curves and animation are automatically excluded when a STEP file is imported.

To import STEP files

1 In your Alias software, choose the appropriate menu item.

To import a CAD file into...	Choose...
Alias ImageStudio	File > Import
Alias StudioTools	File > Open or File > Import > File
Maya	File > Open Scene or File > Import

2 Select a native STEP (*.stp or *.STEP) file from the file browser.

3 Click OK.

The translator will automatically launch and the file will import into the scene.
