Importing Last Year's TaxCut Data

To import last year's data using the Interview:

  1. On the Welcome to TaxCut screen, click Start Return. TaxCut displays the Start a Return screen.

  2. On the Start a Return screen, select the tax return file that you want to import from the Import Last Year's Data list box.

TaxCut files from last year have a .T06 extension. If the tax return file is in a different folder, use the Browse button to navigate to the folder you need.

  1. Click the Import Selected Return button. TaxCut automatically imports data from your last year's file into this year's return.

  2. On the Welcome Back screen, enter a file name for the new tax return, and then click Save and Continue.

TaxCut saves the return in the default folder listed. If you want to save the tax return file to a different folder, use the Browse button to navigate to the folder. As you go through the Interview the data you imported is displayed in blue text. You can edit items with your current year amounts and delete items that no longer apply.

  1. To display the Review Last Year's Data report and view all the previous year's imported data, click the Review Last Year's Data button.

  2. To view all your previous year's data and make changes to it, go to the Reports menu and select Compare Data for Last Year. You can make changes directly on the report or click the Go To Form button to make changes on the form itself.

To import last year's data using the File menu:

  1. From the File menu, select Import Last Year's Tax Data. TaxCut opens the Choose File to Import dialog box.

TaxCut files from last year have a .T06 extension and were saved in the default My Documents/TaxCut folder. If you saved or moved your last year's tax return file to a different folder, navigate to the folder.

  1. Select the tax return file that you want to import, and then click Open.

TaxCut automatically imports data from your last year's file into this year's return.
