Filing Deadline for an Federal Extension

Normally, you should file your tax return by April 15th. If you need more time, you can use TaxCut to complete an extension of time to file. You can file the extension electronically or on paper form. You must complete and file the extension by April 15th. When you file for an extension, the IRS gives you until October 15th to file your actual tax return.

Note: The extension granted by the IRS is an extension of time to file your tax return only. You are still expected to estimate and pay any taxes you owe with your extension by April 15th.
