Why can't I connect to the TaxCut Web site?
There could be several reasons for not being able to connect to the Internet site. Check these items and retry connecting.
If you're having problems downloading an update from within TaxCut and your system's Internet Options' proxy setting is set to "Use automatic configuration script", do one of the following:
contact your network administrator for the appropriate settings to manually change your Proxy Settings.
download the TaxCut update directly from our Update Center.
Make sure you have an Internet service provider (such as America Online®), etc.)
Check your telephone connection. Are your phone jack and cord properly connected? Line noise or bad wiring may cause an unsuccessful connection.
Check your Internet browser (Internet Explorer®, Netscape Navigator®) connection settings.
If you've successfully connected to other Web sites in the past, try again at a later time. There could be a variety of other causes that are out of your control, such as your Internet service provider is down or the Internet is busy.

Why does it take so long to display an IRS publication?
The IRS publications are not loaded onto your computer's hard drive with the rest of the TaxCut application. They are stored on the TaxCut website because they take up a large amount of disk space. When you select a publication to be viewed, it takes a moment for your computer to access the website, locate the publication, and then display it.
I'm in an Interview topic, but I cannot move forward in the Interview because I don't see the Next button.
Some of our Interview screens include more in-depth assistance or ask more questions about a particular topic. These Interview topics include a scroll-bar that you can use prior to clicking Next to proceed. It is located between the FAQ pane on the right-hand side of the TaxCut window and the main Interview pane.
Slide the scroll-bar down after reading your options and selecting all applicable items. The Next button is at the bottom.
Click Next to proceed through the Interview.
Even though I've installed my state program, TaxCut does not display a state tab on the Forms Central, Error Check, or Reports window?
TaxCut will not display a state tab (for example, New York) on these windows until you actually open and start a tax return for the state.
Why can't I read all the text on the Help Central window?
This may happen when viewing tables in a Help topic. If you cannot view the complete text of a table, try resizing the Help Central window.
I changed my screen resolution settings and now the TaxCut window is scrambled.
Close TaxCut and all other applications that are running on your computer. Shut down your system and restart it. When you open TaxCut again, do not change the screen resolution settings. TaxCut has default resolution settings that shouldn't be changed.
Why can't I read the text on the TaxCut windows?
You may have changed your Windows default color scheme causing the text and background to become the same color; this makes the text illegible.
To restore the Windows default color scheme:
On the Taskbar, click the Start button, point to Settings, and then select Control Panel.
In the Control Panel, double-click the Display icon.
Click the Appearance tab.
Under Scheme, select Windows Standard.
Click OK.
What can I do if I accidentally delete my data file?
We recommend that you periodically make a backup of your tax return files so that you can restore the file, if necessary.
To backup your current tax return file from the TaxCut File menu:
From the File menu, select Backup Tax Return. TaxCut displays the Backup As dialog box.
The default backup drive is A:\. Insert a diskette in Drive A:/ or click the Browse button to save the file to a folder on your hard drive.
Enter the name of the backup file in the Name field or accept the default name displayed.
Click OK.
Note: Make sure you don't overwrite any tax return files that you may already have in this folder.
How do I remove TaxCut 2005 (last year's TaxCut) from my hard drive?
First, back up your TaxCut 2005 data:
Insert a blank disk in your computer's removable disk drive.
From Windows Explorer, locate and select the tax return file or files you want to backup. TaxCut 2005 tax return files are stored with a .T05 extension.
Drag the files to the floppy drive icon.
Now you are ready to uninstall TaxCut.
Click the Start button, select Programs, then TaxCut 2005, and then TaxCut 2005 Uninstaller.
When the Uninstall dialog box opens, click on one of the following options:
All - to uninstall the Federal and all State programs.
Federal Only - to uninstall only the Federal program. If you have installed a TaxCut State program and you select this option, you cannot access the State program without first re-installing the Federal program.
State Only - to uninstall only the State program. If you have more than one State program installed, TaxCut allows you to choose which State program you want to uninstall. You can uninstall all State programs or select a specific State program from the list.
Click Next to uninstall the software. Click Cancel if you don't want to uninstall the software.
The uninstall program closes TaxCut and deletes the federal and state
program files from the TaxCut05 folder. It does not delete your tax
return files or the folder itself.
