Opening an Existing Return

When you first open TaxCut, the program displays the Welcome to TaxCut screen. This Welcome screen not only allows you to choose how you would like to proceed, it also displays a list of existing tax return files and the date the file was last changed or worked on.

To open an existing tax return file:

  1. In the Continue With a Saved 2006 Return list box, select the file that you want to open. If you saved the file to a different folder than the default My Documents/TaxCut folder, click the Browse button and navigate to the folder where the tax return file is located.

  2. Click the Continue Selected Return button.

TaxCut opens to the last topic in the Interview that you were working on for the tax return file you selected.

Note: You create a state return by opening your federal return, clicking on the State tab and then opening your state program. TaxCut automatically transfers all applicable information from your federal return to your state return. TaxCut saves the information from your state return in the same file as your federal return. The next time you open your federal return, TaxCut also opens your state tax return.

To open a Recent File:

You can also open a tax return file that you have worked on recently by going to the File menu and clicking the return name listed in the recent files list at the bottom of the File menu. Keep in mind that TaxCut does not list any return files in the recent files list until you actually save and close an untitled tax return file.
