Correcting Errors

When you run Error Check, TaxCut displays a summary of the number of errors/warnings for your return.

To fix the errors sequentially:

1. Click the Fix Errors button.

TaxCut displays the form with the first error in the bottom pane of the Error Check window and automatically places the cursor in the field with the problem. To display the whole form, click the Whole Form button. To close the form and return to the Error Check window, click Close Form at the top of the form.

2. Correct the error and press Enter.

3. Click Next, to go to the next error in the list. TaxCut displays the form and automatically places the cursor in the field causing the error.

4. Continue clicking Next until you have corrected all errors. Once you have corrected the errors, TaxCut continues sequentially through the warnings listed. See Reviewing Warnings. If no warnings exist, TaxCut reruns the Error Check, and the list is updated.

To delete the form with the error:

1. Click the Delete Form button.

2. Click Yes to confirm the deletion.

TaxCut deletes the form and reruns Error Check.

To move back through the errors:

• Click the Back button.

TaxCut moves sequentially back through the list of errors. Once you reach the beginning of the list, TaxCut reruns the Error Check, and the list is updated.

To view the whole list of errors at once:

• Click the Show List button on the bottom right hand of the Error Check window. To hide the list again, click the Hide List button in the Title bar of the list.

To fix a specific error in the list:

1. Click the Show List button to display the list of errors.

2. Click the Go to Error button next to the error you want to correct.

3. TaxCut displays the form containing the error in the bottom pane of the Error Check window and automatically places the cursor in the field that is causing the problem.

3. Correct the error and press Enter.

To print the list:

• Click the Show List button to display the list.

• Click the Print List button in the Title bar of the list.

Some error messages prompt you to compare entries on multiple forms. From the Error Check window you can view a different form, if necessary.

To display a different form:

1. Click the Forms List button in the tool bar of the Error Check window. TaxCut displays the Forms List dialog box which lists all the forms used in TaxCut.

2. Select the form you want to display from the list.

3. Click the Open Form button. TaxCut displays the form in the Error Check window.

4. Click the Close button to close the Forms List dialog box.

The new form does not replace the form shown in the bottom pane of the Error Check window. When you close the new form, TaxCut continues to display the original form associated with the error or warning.
