Trademarks and Copyrights ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 1.Before using DVgate Plus [Operating Requirements] -The use of this program is intended only for VAIO computers bundled with Windows XP Home Edition or Windows XP Professional or Windows XP Media Center Edition. This program is not guaranteed to function on other computers. -Minimum Display Requirements Screen Resolution: 1024x768 pixels Color Quality (Depth): Medium (16 bit) Note: Colors may not be displayed properly when the color quality (depth) is set to 256 Colors or lower. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 2.Notes [Computer Settings] -Your computer must be configured properly in order to make best use of this application. Please read, "Required Configuration of Your Computer" & "Cautions and Limitations" in the on-line help. [Display Settings] -Resolution Change Exit the application before changing the display resolution, then open it again after the resolution change has completed. -Refresh Rate If the Screen refresh rate is set too high in Windows' Display Properties, video or audio may not play smoothly. [Audio problems] -When capturing video from a tape or outputting movie files using this application, the audio feed may be interrupted briefly, however, there will be no problem with the audio in the video that is captured from a tape or in the movie that is outputted (recorded) to a tape or file by this application. [Virtual Memory Settings] -This application requires a large amount of memory space to output movie files. An error may occur when preview or output is performed when more than one file exists on the clip list. If an error is encountered in this case, increase the maximum virtual memory size: - When using approx. 30 movie files or more, set the maximum virtual memory size to 2048 MB or more. - The maximum paging file size will vary depending on your computer's specifications. - The configuration described above must be performed by a user with an Administrator user account or privileges. - To reset the maximum virtual memory size, do the following: 1. Click the "Start" button on the Windows Task Bar 2. Position the pointer over "Control Panel" and click 3. Click "Performance and Maintenance" (If "Performance and Maintenance" is not displayed, go to the next step without clicking anything) 4. Click "System" 5. Click the "Advanced" tab, then click "Settings" in "Performance." 6. Click the "Advanced" tab, then click "Change" in "Virtual memory." 7. Enter 2048 or more in "Maximum size (MB):" in "Paging file size for selected drive." 8. Click "Set." 9. Click "OK", then click "OK" twice again to close the "Performance Options" and "System Properties" dialog boxes. [Running other applications] -Stop all other applications when running this program to ensure smooth operation. And especially when capturing from or recording to DV and MICROMV devices, stop all resident services such as antivirus and automated timer functions. [System standby and hibernation during operation] -This application does not support forced or automated system Standby or Hibernation during operation. [Connecting DV devices] -If you intend to use an external DV device (DV, DVCAM or MICROMV) for the first time with this application, connect the device to the computer before starting the program. Open My Computer and check that the DV device icon is displayed to confirm device recognition. -When you connect a DV device to your computer, the "Digital Video Device" dialog window will appear every time. Close the dialog window by clicking "Cancel" if this application is running. Note: If you do not want the dialog window to be displayed in the future, select "Take no action" from the drop-down list underneath the text, "What do you want Windows to do?", check "Always perform the selected action" and click "OK". -If you connect a Sony digital video cassette recorder for the first time, a "Found New Hardware Wizard" dialog window will appear and an "AV/C Tuner" will be detected. In this case, select "Install the software automatically (Recommended)", then click "Next". Even if the message, "The wizard could not find the software on your computer for..." appears, there should still be no problem using this application with the recorder. Note: The configuration described above must be performed by a user with an Administrator user account or privileges. [Ensuring video content] -If under any circumstances a failure is encountered while capturing from or recording to an external DV device (software related or other..), Sony takes no responsibility for the loss of video content. [Copyright Infringement] -Unauthorized use of captured or recorded movies is strictly prohibited unless intended for personal use with permission from the copyright holders. [In case you use a Sony Digital8 camcorder] -Please select Manual Capture mode if you want to capture video recorded in analog format (Hi8/8mm). [In case you use a Sony Media Converter] -This application does not support output for Analog devices by Media Converter. [In case you use a DV device with an Analog-to-Digital Conversion function] -Please do not use the Analog-to-Digital Conversion function while recording movies to a DV device. Regarding the Analog-to-Digital Conversion function, please refer to the instruction manual that came with your device. [Problems related to DV devices with DV OUT only capability] -For a DV device that has DV OUT only capability, this application may not be able to add scenes or perform capture. In the case this occurs, manually play back or pause the tape to display video images on the monitor and try adding scenes or capturing again. [In case the tape contains blank (unrecorded) data] -If the tape contains blank (unrecorded) data between the IN and OUT points, you will not be able to capture properly. Please do not set IN points before blank areas of the tape and OUT points after blank areas of the tape. [Capturing from an out of order time code area] -Please select "Manual Capture" mode if you want to capture from a time code area that is out of order. [DV CODEC AVI 2.0 file division] -When "DV CODEC AVI 2.0 (*.avi)" is selected for File type in Capture Settings or File Output Settings, the captured or outputted file is divided every 6 hours even though "Do not divide by time or file size" is selected. [Splicing the recording from the end of a recorded area] -If you start recording video from the end of a recorded area on the DV tape, DVgate Plus may not precisely determine the position at which recording should start. To correct this, when recording a segment on the DV tape, add 30 or more frames at the end of the segment if you want to perform splice recording in the future. [Canceling while controlling a DV device] -If this application is controlling a DV device, it may take a long time to exit an operation related to DV device control even if the operation has been cancelled. [Canceling the deinterlace process] -In order to prevent combing stripes occurring on a monitor, DVgate Plus performes deinterlace process. But this process is unnecessary with movie recoded in progressive mode. In case of you use a camcorder in this mode, please select "cancel the deinterlace process." This setting is only valid to monitor display and the picture files "Still Capture" mode, this setting doesn't change to captured movie files. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.Known problems [Step Backward/Forward accuracy with MPEG2, MICROMV files & Video Capsules] -In case you click Step Backward/Forward in the Edit Movie Clips or Clip Preview windows with an MPEG2 or MICROMV file or Video Capsule, the video may move backward or forward by more than one frame. [The time required of connecting a MICROMV device] -In case you start the computer on with MICROMV devices connected, then you run this application and select "Still Capture" mode, it takes 30 seconds for connecting MICROMV devices. You cannot use this application in the meantime. [The time required of handling many clips] -In case you handle many clips at once, it takes time for a while until processing is finished. [Limitation of Video Capsules on the clip list] -In case you move Video Capsules on the clip list from original cabinet, please put the Video Capsules on the clip list again. [Note on capturing from a MICROMV tape] -When capturing from a MICROMV tape, there will be approx. 0.5 seconds of overlap at the dividing point of the file for preventing data loss. When combining these files, please delete this overlapping data. [Error message of Video Capsules importing] -The Video Capsules cannot be imported in the following cases. In this case, the error message 'The files moved or deleted from the "Save in" folder were unable to be added to the list.' is displayed. * The Video Capsules are under recording or under recording reservation. * The Video Capsules are set password. * The Video Capsules don't have original files . [Note on using an i.LINK hard disk drive] -In case you remove i.LINK hard disk drive from your computer when there are Video Capsules on the clip list in the cabinet of a i.LINK hard disk drive, please put the Video Capsules on the clip list again. [Note on output to Click to DVD Project File] -In case output a clip list that includes 44.1kHz AVI files to a Click to DVD Project File, Click to DVD delete the clips of 44.1kHz AVI files from a DVD Project File ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) Trademarks and Copyrights -VAIO is a trademark of Sony Corporation. -DVgate Plus is a trademark of Sony Corporation. -Microsoft and Windows are registered trademarks of Microsoft Corporation in the U.S. and other countries. -Other system names and product names herein are generally trademarks or registered trademarks of their respective manufacturers.
