Known Problems * Problems with music contents streaming function - Takes too much time for the computer to start-up - Takes too much time for VAIO Media Integrated Server to start-up * Problems with video contents streaming function - Some folders remain even after uninstalling VAIO Media Integrated Server * Problems with network connection - VAIO Media cannot find the server - VAIO Media cannot play the media content 4. Before using VAIO Media Integrated Server * Operating environment VAIO Media Integrated Server is designed to run only on VAIO computers with Windows XP Media Center Edition preinstalled. * Supported Network Interfaces VAIO Media Integrated Server supports the following network interfaces: - Ethernet (100 BASE-TX / 10 BASE-T) - Wireless LAN Interfaces (IEEE 802.11b or IEEE 802.11a or IEEE 802.11g) that are built into VAIO computers - Sony Wireless LAN Interface Card (IEEE 802.11b or IEEE 802.11a or IEEE 802.11g) For video contents streaming function, high-speed network interfaces such as 100 BASE-TX and IEEE 802.11a are strongly recommended. ------------------------------------------------------------------ 2. Restrictions * Common restrictions - Starting the server Before starting a session between VAIO Media Integrated Server and its clients such as VAIO Media or a compatible network device, you must start the server software by using the VAIO Media Console on the server computer. Make sure the "Access this computer from other devices connected to the network" checkbox is selected on the "Access Control Settings" tab. To start VAIO Media Console on the server computer, click "Start", click "All Programs", click "VAIO Media", click "Server Administration", and click "VAIO Media Console". - End-User License Agreement for Windows XP Professional and Windows XP Media Center Edition In compliance with the terms and conditions of End-User License Agreement for Windows XP Professional and Windows XP Media Center Edition, you may permit a maximum of ten(10) computers or other electronic devices to connect to the computer to utilize the services of the Product solely for File and Print services, Internet Information Services, and remote access including connection sharing and telephony services. - End-User License Agreement for Windows XP Home Edition In compliance with the terms and conditions of End-User License Agreement for Windows XP Home Edition, you may permit a maximum of five(5) computers or other electronic devices to connect to the computer to utilize the services of the Product solely for File and Print services, Internet Information Services, and remote access including connection sharing and telephony services. - Play contents registered to Folders Some files registered to folders may not be played. - Other Sony shall (will) not be liable for damage or loss resulting from the use of this software, or for any claim from a third party. Sony assumes no responsibility aside from the replacement of the product due to manufacturing fault. The software is applied only for the devices specified. The software specifications may be subject to change without notice. * Restrictions of music contents streaming function - SonicStage / OpenMG Jukebox users Before using the backup tool bundled with SonicStage or OpenMG Jukebox, stop the VAIO Media Integrated Server from the VAIO Media Console. If you back up or restore data while VAIO Media Integrated Server is running, the back up or restore may fail. To start VAIO Media Console on the server computer, click "Start", click "All Programs", click "VAIO Media", click "Server Administration", and click "Console". - After re-installing or updating SonicStage After re-installing or updating SonicStage, make sure to reboot the computer. Otherwise, VAIO Media Integrated Server may not start. This problem will be solved if the computer is rebooted. - Search results of music content VAIO Media may display duplicates of some items in the music search results or the music content list. In the case of a duplicate listing, both can be played back successfully. * Restrictions of photo contents download function - PictureGear Studio 1.0 users Cannot use PictureGear Studio 1.0 to connect to VAIO Media Integrated Server 3.0. * Restrictions of video contents streaming function - Video formats supported by VAIO Media Integrated Server VAIO Media Integrated Server supports only normally recorded video. The following video is not displayed to client because it is not available to the client. - Video only with Digital Rights Management (DRM) information - Video not recorded normally for some reason - VAIO Media Integrated Server-enabled devices Some VAIO computers do not support video contents - Video Capsules served by VAIO Media Integrated Server VAIO Media Integrated Server does not serve the following Video Capsules to client devices: - Video Capsules without video data. (i.e. Video Capsule with only property data) - Invalid Video Capsules - Streaming TV broadcasting for more than 12 hours In about every 12 hours, streaming may break temporarily. - Wireless network VAIO Media Video Server can not perform effectively using IEEE 802.11b. For streaming video contents on the wireless network, IEEE 802.11a is strongly recommended. * Restrictions of video contents streaming function on Windows XP Media Center Edition - Watch TV function VAIO Media Video Server does not support Live TV streaming but it does support analog input. - Search function of Video with 1-week duration VAIO Media Video Server does not support this function. No content will be listed if this function is selected. - Searching recorded videos "By Category" VAIO Media Video Server does not support this function. All of the videos will be categorized in the "unknown" folder if this option is selected. - Sorting recorded videos "By Category" VAIO Media Video Server does not support this function. All of the videos falls into "unknown" category. * Restrictions of network connection - Internet Connections It is strongly recommended that you use server software only when the server computer is NOT connected to the Internet or is connected to the Internet through a router. When connecting to the Internet through a router, configure the router to prevent unauthorized accesses from outside your local network. For more information about configuring your router, refer to the manual that came with the router. If you connect to the Internet through some router configurations, some software programs that require global IP addresses may not work properly. Installing routers may not be permitted by some of Internet service providers. For more information, consult your provider. - Setting WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy) For wireless network, enable the WEP setting to establish protection against unauthorized access. Also, use network key (WEP key) of 128 bits or higher, if possible. For detailed information, refer to the manual of your wireless access point. - Accessing from other devices on the network By the factory setting, each VAIO Media server does not permit access from other devices on the network. It is required to register each device to the server using the VAIO Media Console. ------------------------------------------------------------------ 3. Known Problems * Problems with music contents streaming function - It takes too long for the computer to start-up Upon start-up or recovery from stand-by or hibernation, the performance of the computer tends to be slow. - It takes too long for VAIO Media Integrated Server to start-up When staring up VAIO Media Integrated Server using the VAIO Media Console, it may require some time. * Problems with video contents streaming function - Some folders remain even after uninstalling VAIO Media Integrated Server Even after VAIO Media Integrated Server is uninstalled some of the folders created by VAIO Media Integrated Server may not be deleted. These folders will not cause problems to the computer. * Problems with network connection - VAIO Media cannot find the server In some situations, servers cannot be found on the network even though they have been started and your firewall application is properly set up. If this occurs, stop the server by using the VAIO Media Console, and then restart the server computer. If the problem persists, restart the client computer. When using firewall applications like Norton Internet Security, the server may not be found. In this case, please set as follows (if the application is Norton Internet Security 2004). For other applications, please refer to their online Help. 1. Start Norton Internet Security.2004 2. Click the "Personal Firewall" option on the Internet Security page 3. Click the "Configure" button 4. Select the "Programs" tab 5. Click "Add" 6. Browse to the location "C:\Program Files\Sony\VAIO Media Integrated Server\Platform" 7. Choose the file "UPnPFramework.exe" and click Open. 8. Verify that the Program rules for this file is set to "Permit" access 9. Click OK 10. Repeat step 5 11. Browse to "C:\Program Files\Sony\ VAIO Media Integrated Server\ Platform\" 12. Choose the file "SV_Httpd.exe" and click Open. 13. Verify that the Program rules for this file is set to "Permit" access 14. Stop the server and start it again using the VAIO Media Console. - VAIO Media cannot play the media content In some situations, VAIO Media or other devices on your network may be unable to play media content from the server computer even if each server is working properly. If this occurs, stop the server software by using the VAIO Media Console, and then restart the server computer. If the problem persists, restart the client computer. - When playing content from RoomLink (PCNA-MR1) or importing content through Click to DVD, an error may occur. If this occurs, it could be due to the following: - Video displayed on the monitor may stop during Click to DVD's capture process, however, this will not affect the saved data.
