In case of an audit or when your charitable donations exceed certain limits, the IRS may want to know who received your charitable gifts. For this reason, you should enter information about each charitable organization that you make a donation to.
Note: The IRS has specific rules about which charities are qualified to receive your donations. See qualified organizations in the Glossary for more information.
After you enter a charity, the charity is available in a drop-down list in the Charity Name field when you enter your donations on the Money Donations, Item Donations, Expenses & Mileage, and Medical & Other Deductions tabs.
There is no limit to the number of charities that you can enter.
