To enter your car donation in DeductionPro, you simply treat it as you would any other unlisted item. To learn how to enter an unlisted item, see What if DeductionPro does not list values for items that I have donated?
To learn about donating a car, see Donating Your Used Car to Charity in the H&R Block Guide to Charitable Deductions and Tax Planning.
Keep these things in mind when you are recording a car donation:
If you receive a Form 1098-C from the charity to which you donated the vehicle, the IRS requires you to use the value reported on it.
When entering the fair market value, consider using one of the vehicle valuation guides, such as Kelley Blue Book, Edmunds.com, or NADA, to help you determine its value.
When donating an unlisted item, such as a car, you must specify the method you used to determine its value. See What should I enter as the Valuation Method? for details.
For detailed information about the fair market value of an item, refer to IRS Publication 561, Determining the Value of Donated Property, or the instructions for Form 8283, Noncash Charitable Contributions.
