PhotoRecord is easy to use and provides great prints. This Readme file contains last minute product information about PhotoRecord 1.6.0 for Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000 and Windows XP. Full instructions for using PhotoRecord are given in the PhotoRecord on-line Help. You can access this from the Help menu within PhotoRecord. Please check http://www.photorecord.com/ for new information, more page artwork and program updates. System Requirements ------------------- Minimum requirements for PhotoRecord are: - Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows NT 4.0 (service pack 3 or higher), Windows 2000 or Windows XP. - A Pentium 150MHz processor. - 32MB RAM on Windows 95, Windows 98 or Windows Me (64MB recommended); 64MB RAM on Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000 or Windows XP. - 70MB of free disk space is required for installation - After installation PhotoRecord requires at least 50MB of free disk space for temporary file storage. - Display 800x600 pixels, High Color (1024x768 pixels recommended). Note that you cannot use PhotoRecord with Windows 3.11 or earlier. Upgrading PhotoRecord --------------------- To upgrade an existing installation of PhotoRecord, do not uninstall the previous version. The PhotoRecord installer will recognise the previous installation and upgrade it. Any artwork you have downloaded from the PhotoRecord web site will still be available. Uninstalling PhotoRecord ------------------------ To uninstall PhotoRecord: - click the Start button, - select Programs, - select Canon PhotoRecord, - select PhotoRecord unInstall. Limitations ----------- 1. Images copy and paste does not work with some applications. Some applications allow you to copy an image onto the clipboard for use in other applications. PhotoRecord does not recognise some clipboard formats and so may ignore the image on the clipboard. If this occurs, paste the image into an image editor and save it, then open the file in PhotoRecord. Also, when you copy an image file onto the clipboard in PhotoRecord, some applications will not allow you to paste that image. If this occurs, try opening the original image file directly in the other application. 2. Printing is slow to start. Most printers are designed to quickly print text. However PhotoRecord albums are mostly photos and graphics and PhotoRecord produces high quality image data for the whole of each page. This means that your computer needs to do more work so you may need to wait for a while before printing starts. If you use "Draft" print quality in the print dialog box then printing should start more quickly, but the printout will not look as good. 3. Cannot set custom paper sizes within PhotoRecord. The Paper Size list in the Print Modes wizard lists the paper sizes that the current printer supports. Often this contains a "Custom..." entry. This corresponds to a custom size within the printer driver. It is not possible to set a custom paper size within PhotoRecord. Please do not select "Custom..." in the Print Modes wizard. 4. CMYK JPEG and CMYK TIFF images do not display correctly. Some JPEG and TIFF images use a different colour space from others. PhotoRecord does not correctly display colours for CMYK JPEG and CMYK TIFF images. Most JPEG and TIFF images will display correctly. 5. Copy/Paste from PhotoRecord to Windows 98 Explorer performs Cut/Paste. Copying a photo in PhotoRecord and then pasting it into Windows Explorer in Windows 98 moves the photo, rather than copies it. It is the same as performing a Cut/Paste operation in Windows Explorer. 6. Disabling background printing may cause white lines in print on Windows 95/98/Me. Some printer drivers support foreground or background printing. On Windows 95/98/Me, turning background printing off may cause white lines to appear in the print. If this occurs, turn background printing on and try printing again. 7. PhotoRecord may not run correctly with some Windows XP functions. The use of some Windows XP functions such as Fast User Switching, Run with Different Credentials and Compatibility Modes can cause problems in PhotoRecord. Please do not use these Windows functions when running PhotoRecord. 8. Poster Printing with Canon Bubble Jet printers. When you print your album in Poster Print Mode using landscape orientation, the wrong sections of the poster may be printed if you try to select specific sections to print. Either print all sections of the poster at once, or if you want to print only specific sections of your poster, use portrait orientation in your album. Known Problems and Workarounds ------------------------------ Installation: 1. If the drive you are installing PhotoRecord to does not have enough free disk space, the installation will stop responding. Ensure that you have at least 70MB of free space before you install PhotoRecord. General: 1. Changing page style uses increasing memory. If you try out many different page backgrounds, photo frames or other artwork, PhotoRecord may use large amounts of memory. Close PhotoRecord and re-open it to free this memory. 2. Closing Edit Text dialog or Photo Viewer window can hide PhotoRecord. When closing the Edit Text dialog or Photo Viewer window, sometimes another application will jump to the front of the screen, hiding PhotoRecord. Minimise the other application to reveal PhotoRecord again. 3. Stop Fetch button cannot be clicked in some circumstances. In some situations the Stop Fetch button and menu item cannot be clicked even though photos are currently being fetched. In this situation, the fetch can be cancelled by pressing in sequence "Alt", "f", and "t". 4. Drag and Drop does not work on some Windows 95 machines. On some machines running Windows 95 you will not be able to drag and drop photos from Windows Explorer onto PhotoRecord. In this case you can still add those photos into PhotoRecord by right-clicking on the photo(s) in Windows Explorer and selecting "Copy", and then right-clicking on a page in PhotoRecord and selecting "Paste Photo From Clipboard". 5. Photo rotation controls may disappear in index layout mode. When in the print mode is "Artwork / layout album" and you are using "Index layout", some photos may not show the popup blue arrow controls used for rotation. If you change the layout style to "Manual" and then back to "Index", the controls will reappear. Text: 1. Marlett font displays as normal text. The Marlett font does not work with PhotoRecord. 2. Descenders of some fonts do not display properly. The lower portions of some characters in fonts with long descenders are cut off when shown on screen. "Descenders" are the parts of letters that extend below the base line of the text. Examples of letters with descenders are g, j, p and q. However, the descenders will appear correctly in the printout. 3. Using Japanese characters with English font will not work correctly If you are using a double-byte version of Windows, such as Japanese Windows, you must use a font that supports Japanese characters, such as MS Mincho. Double-byte characters may not display correctly if you use a single-byte font, such as Arial. Printing: 1. Landscape printing to Acrobat is rotated. Landscape pages come out rotated 90 degrees if you make an Adobe Acrobat PDF file by printing to Distiller Assistant. You can only use portrait orientation when making PDF files. 2. 'Copies' in Print dialog ignored by Canon CD-200. If you choose to make duplicate copies of your album in the PhotoRecord Print dialog then only one copy will be printed by the Canon CD-200 printer. Instead click the "Properties" button in the Print dialog and set the number of copies in the "Print Format" tab. 3. Some printer drivers ignore orientation setting in PhotoRecord. When printing an album, some printer drivers override the paper orientation (landscape/portrait) setting in PhotoRecord. This can cause your album to be laid out again with the orientation changed. To ensure the orientation is correct, click the "Properties" button in the Print dialog and select the desired orienation. 4. Printing large albums may run out of memory. Printing more than three album pages under Windows NT or Windows 2000 can cause your machine to run very low on memory. This is a problem when your machine does not have much free disk space. It may cause bad prints. Printing an A4 page with Standard print quality requires approximately 18MB. Print only one or two pages at a time or free more disk space to avoid the problem. 5. Some printer features require "Print each page separately" turned off. There are some printer functions, such as double-sided printing and printing multiple pages on a single sheet of paper, that will not work correctly when the "Print each page separately" option is turned on (in the Preferences dialog). This is because when that option is turned on PhotoRecord does not give the pages to the printer at the same time. See the Help for the Preferences dialog for more information. On Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 2000 it is necessary to have administrator privileges to change the "Print each page separately" setting. 6. Display settings should not be changed while printing. Changing the display settings while PhotoRecord is printing can cause PhotoRecord to become unresponsive and can cause unexpected colors in the print result. Display settings include the Color Palette depth (for example, High Color or True Color) and the size of the Desktop Area.
