Communicating with a Canon camera ==================================== (1) Do not put your computer in Standby mode while a Canon camera is connected to the USB or IEEE1394 port. If you accidentally put your computer in Standby mode while a Canon camera is connected to the USB or IEEE1394 port, leave the camera connected to the computer and bring the computer out of Standby mode. Unplugging the cable from the computer while in Standby mode may cause some computers to fail to come out of Standby mode correctly. See the user manual for your computer for more information about Standby mode. (2) File Viewer Utility cannot connect to a camera that is currently in communication with another application. If the camera is communicating with other software, exit the application that is communicating with the camera, and restart File Viewer Utility. (3) When connected to a camera with File Viewer Utility running, File Viewer Utility regularly communicates with the camera. Do not use the camera controls, remove the memory card or battery, or unplug the communications cable while the software and the camera are in communication. These actions may cause misoperation on some PCs. Exit File Viewer Utility before performing these actions. (4) If the icon for the connected camera does not display in the folder tree area, check that the camera is on and the cable connected and click the [Refresh] button. 2. About Windows 98SE ===================== (1) For more stable operations, we recommend that users connecting a camera with an IEEE1394 interface to a computer running Windows 98SE download and install the following update program from the Microsoft web site. "Windows 98 Second Edition 1394 Storage Supplement" (2) If you connect a camera to a computer running Windows 98SE, set the Auto Power Off setting to [Off]. 3. Rotated RAW+JPEG images ========================== Software applications other than File Viewer Utility handle RAW+JPEG images as two independent images. As a result, if you rotate the RAW image and the JPEG image at different angles in other software, you may not be able to display the rotation angles correctly in File Viewer Utility. If this happens, using the software originally used to set the image rotation, change the rotation angles for the RAW image and the JPEG image to the same angle to display the images correctly in File Viewer Utility. 4. Connecting to an EOS digital camera ====================================== 1) You cannot communicate with a camera when the camera LCD monitor is on. If the LCD monitor is on, turn it off by pressing the shutter button halfway, and then connect the camera. 2) When you connect a camera, set the camera Auto Power Off setting to 2 or more minutes or [Off]. 3) While browsing camera icons, do not take continuous photos with RAW images. In some cases the PC may become inoperative. If continuous photos have been taken, be sure to press [OK] in the update dialog box after image data has been written to the CF card (access LED stops flashing). 5. Saving TIFF (16-bits/channel) files ====================================== Images saved in TIFF (16 bits/channel) format do not display correctly in Thumbnails view in Windows Explorer. 6. Using an EOS-1D camera ========================= 1) Displaying image information The shutter speed time information added to an image is not recorded accurately for extended exposures of 100 or more minutes. 2) 8-bit linear images If you retouch RAW images shot with an EOS-1D after transferring and saving them as 8-bit linear images, there may be noticeable noise in the shadow areas when you correct the images. We recommend using 16-bit mode if you want to transfer and save linear images.
