AIM® makes communicating with your friends and colleagues easier than ever before. AIM is part of the AOL Network, which provides a wide variety of content, including integrated and on-demand video, picture sharing, search, and more.

The programs that will be installed on your computer include:

You should also be aware of the following:

You will be given a choice whether to make AIM Search your default search engine, install the AIM Toolbar (requires Windows XP or Windows Vista), and whether to make AIM Zones your homepage.

The AIM Toolbar will help to block pop-ups and provides easy access to AIM Search, AOL mail, and more from your browser.

The AOL Network Privacy Policy describes our practices for the collection and use of information about users of the AIM Toolbar or any of the products, programs or services in the AOL Network. The AOL Network collects or receives personal information, for example, when you provide registration information, or when you visit and interact with AOL Network sites, services and pages. Your AOL Network information may be used, among other things, to operate and improve our services and to personalize the content and advertisements provided to you. To learn more about the AOL Network’s information practices, including the choices you have about your personal information, please read the full text of the AOL Network Privacy Policy by clicking here.

AIM will start automatically when you start Windows. You can change this behavior from the Edit menu in AIM by clicking on Settings, then the Sign In/Sign Out tab, and unchecking “Start AIM when Windows starts.” When you sign in to AIM, AIM Zones will be displayed by default. You can change this behavior from the Edit menu in AIM by clicking on Settings, then the Sign In/Sign Out tab, and choosing “None.”

If you change your search engine to AIM Search, the AIM Toolbar will warn when you start a browser if this setting is changed by another program or process and provide you with the ability to change it back. After the AIM Toolbar is installed, if you misspell a web address or enter a non-existent domain, the browser will display alternative links from AIM Search instead of an error page.

A desktop shortcut, system tray icon, Start Menu folder, and Quick Launch shortcut for AIM will be added to your computer to provide you quick access to AIM’s features and services.
