Installing the WD SmartWare Backup Software

The What Would you Like to Do? prompt on the Welcome screen provides three choices:

• Back Up Files
• Set Up Drive
• Retrieve a Backup

Each choice installs the WD SmartWare™ software first, and then starts the option you clicked: Back Up files, Set Up Drive, or Retrieve a Backup.

About Backup Options

• Back Up Files. Lets you run your first backup operation using the default drive settings. You can also select specific content categories by displaying the detailed view of the backup files.
• Set Up Drive. Drive Settings screen you can use to customize you drive settings before performing your first backup operation.
• Retrieve a backup. The WD SmartWare Home screen that you can use to select the drive settings, backup and retrieve functions.

This screen first appears before you have installed the WD SmartWare software. For the first time only, the setup script installs the software before performing your selection.

If your computer has AutoRun capability, a Don't Show this Screen Again option lets you bypass the screen the next time you connect your drive to your computer, if desired.

To bypass the screen next time you connect your drive:

Click Don't Show this Screen Again.

To initiate a backup using the current drive settings:

Click Back Up Files.

To change the drive settings:

Click Set Up Drive.

To skip the WD SmartWare introduction and advance directly to the WD SmartWare Home screen:

Click Retrieve a Backup.
