Customizing the WD SmartWare Software Options

To customize the performance of your WD SmartWare™ software, you can change the following settings:

To change the number of backup versions to keep for each file:

Click File History; then enter the desired number of back up versions of files you want to store on your backup drive.

To enable backup operations or suspend them until your computer is idle:

Click System Throttling; then either select or deselect the option.

To specify a path to a different retrieve folder:

  1. Click Retrieve Folder.
  2. You can accept the default setting for the file retrieve folder, browse to select another folder, or enter your own path to create a new retrieve folder location.

To select an option to display the WD SmartWare Home screen whenever you reconnect your drive to your computer:

Click Preferences; then either select or deselect Open WD SmartWare when Drive is Connected.

To select an option to check for software updates when you reconnect your drive to your computer:

Click Preferences; then either select or deselect the Automatically Check for WD SmartWare Software Updates. By default, the option is deselected.
