Entering Your Password Repeatedly
The WD SmartWare™ software Unlock application lets you enter an incorrect password four (4) times. After four attempts, your drive is temporarily locked. Note that it is very helpful to have your password written and secured somewhere away from your computer, especially if you use many different passwords for different devices or Internet sites.
To re-enter your password after restarting your drive:
- After four attempts, a message appears to indicate that too many password attempts have been made.
- Do one of the following, based on the type of drive you are unlocking:
- For My Passport, either disconnect the USB cable or remove the drive from the optional dock.
- For My Book, disconnect the USB cable, either disconnect the AC adapter cable or press the power button to off.
- Wait 30 seconds, and then reconnect your drive to your computer.
- Navigate to and open the WD SmartWare Virtual CD (VCD) associated with the drive you want to unlock, then open and run the Unlock application.
- Enter your password, and then click Unlock.
