Before using VAIO Media Integrated Server * Operating environment The supported operating environment includes computers with one of the following operating systems: Windows Vista Home Basic, Windows Vista Home Premium, Windows Vista Business, Windows Vista Ultimate, Windows XP Home Edition, Windows XP Professional or Windows XP Media Center Edition. ------------------------------------------------------------------ 2. Restrictions * Common restrictions - Starting or stopping the server You must select the "Allow other devices on your network to access this computer" checkbox on the "Access Control Settings" window of VAIO Media Server Settings. To start VAIO Media Server Settings on the server computer, click "Start" and select "All Programs", "VAIO Media", "Server Administration", and "VAIO Media Server Settings". - End-User License Agreement for Windows XP Professional and Windows XP Media Center Edition In compliance with the terms and conditions of End-User License Agreement for Windows XP Professional and Windows XP Media Center Edition, you may permit a maximum of ten(10) computers or other electronic devices to connect to the computer to utilize the services of the Product solely for File and Print services, Internet Information Services, and remote access including connection sharing and telephony services. - End-User License Agreement for Windows XP Home Edition In compliance with the terms and conditions of End-User License Agreement for Windows XP Home Edition, you may permit a maximum of five(5) computers or other electronic devices to connect to the computer to utilize the services of the Product solely for File and Print services, Internet Information Services, and remote access including connection sharing and telephony services. - Play contents registered to Folders Some files registered to folders may not be played. - Other Sony shall (will) not be liable for damage or loss resulting from the use of this software, or for any claim from a third party. Sony assumes no responsibility aside from the replacement of the product due to manufacturing fault. The software is applied only for the devices specified. The software specifications may be subject to change without notice. * Restrictions of music contents streaming function - SonicStage / OpenMG Jukebox users Before using the backup tool bundled with SonicStage or OpenMG Jukebox, stop the VAIO Media Integrated Server from the VAIO Media Server Settings. If you back up or restore data while VAIO Media Integrated Server is running, the back up or restore may fail. To start VAIO Media Server Settings on the server computer, click "Start", click "All Programs", click "VAIO Media", click "Server Administration", and click "VAIO Media Server Settings". - After re-installing or updating SonicStage After re-installing or updating SonicStage, make sure to reboot the computer. Otherwise, VAIO Media Integrated Server may not start. This problem will be solved if the computer is rebooted. - Search results of music content VAIO Media may display duplicates of some items in the music search results or the music content list. In the case of a duplicate listing, both can be played back successfully. * Restrictions of photo contents download function - PictureGear Studio 1.0 users Cannot use PictureGear Studio 1.0 to connect to VAIO Media Integrated Server 3.0 or later. * Restrictions of video contents streaming function - Video formats supported by VAIO Media Integrated Server VAIO Media Integrated Server supports only normally recorded video. The following video is not displayed to client because it is not available to the client. - Video only with Digital Rights Management (DRM) information - Video not recorded normally for some reason - Video Capsules served by VAIO Media Integrated Server VAIO Media Integrated Server does not serve the following Video Capsules to client devices: - Video Capsules without video data. (i.e. Video Capsule with only property data) - Invalid Video Capsules - Streaming TV broadcasting for more than 12 hours In about every 12 hours, streaming may break temporarily. - Wireless network VAIO Media Integrated Server can not perform effectively using IEEE 802.11b. For streaming video contents on the wireless network, IEEE 802.11a / IEEE 802.11g is strongly recommended. * Restrictions of video contents streaming function on Windows XP Media Center Edition - Search function of Video with 1-week duration VAIO Media Integrated Server does not support this function. No content will be listed if this function is selected. * Restrictions of network connection - Internet Connections It is strongly recommended that you use server software only when the server computer is NOT connected to the Internet or is connected to the Internet through a router. When connecting to the Internet through a router, configure the router to prevent unauthorized accesses from outside your local network. For more information about configuring your router, refer to the manual that came with the router. If you connect to the Internet through some router configurations, some software programs that require global IP addresses may not work properly. Installing routers may not be permitted by some of Internet service providers. For more information, consult your provider. - Setting WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy) For wireless network, enable the WEP setting to establish protection against unauthorized access. Also, use network key (WEP key) of 128 bits or higher, if possible. For detailed information, refer to the manual of your wireless access point. ------------------------------------------------------------------ 3. Known Problems - It takes too long for the computer to start-up Upon start-up or recovery from stand-by or hibernation, the performance of the computer tends to be slow. - It takes too long for VAIO Media Integrated Server to start-up When staring up VAIO Media Integrated Server using the VAIO Media Server Settings, it may require some time. - Some folders remain even after uninstalling VAIO Media Integrated Server Even after VAIO Media Integrated Server is uninstalled some of the folders created by VAIO Media Integrated Server may not be deleted.
