Enjoying Music, Photos, Video, and Television on Other VAIO Computers

Installing VAIO Media on a computer allows you to listen to music, view photos, or watch video on the server, or watch television* through your network.

The television function may not be available in some countries or regions.

  • Operating environment
    The operation of VAIO Media is only guaranteed on the following computers. Other operating environments are not supported.
    • Sony VAIO computers with Windows Vista or Windows XP pre-installed
    • Sony VAIO computers upgraded to Windows Vista using the Windows Vista upgrade program
    • Sony VAIO computers upgraded to Windows XP using the Windows XP upgrade program
  • About Flash Player
    To use VAIO Media, Adobe Flash Player must be installed on the computer. Flash Player can be downloaded from the following web page:

    View this page with Internet Explorer 6.0 or later.
Obtaining the Installer
1.
Click Get Installer below.
A dialog box appears.

Click Save.
A dialog box appears where you can specify the save destination of the Installer.
3.
Specify the location where you want to save the Installer.
4.
Click Save.
The Installer is saved in the specified location.
5.
Copy the Installer to CD-R, "Memory Stick", or other storage media compatible with the computer where you want to copy the Installer.

Installing VAIO Media

Before running the Installer...
  • Log on to your computer as a user with administrator access privileges.
    • When running Windows Vista, the Administrator account password is required to install VAIO Media while logged on as a standard user. When installation is performed and a dialog box appears asking for permission from the Administrator account holder, enter the Administrator account password and click "Submit".
    • When running Windows XP, if you are currently logged on to a restricted account, log off the account and log on again as a user with administrator access privileges. If you perform the installation while logged on to a restricted account an error may occur and installation may not complete. In this case, log off the account, log on again as a user with administrator access privileges, and perform the installation again.
  • Before installing VAIO Media (VMInst.exe) on a computer already running VAIO Media Music Server, Photo Server, Video Server, or VAIO Media Integrated Server, make sure that you quit VAIO Media Server Settings. Restart the appropriate server(s) when your computer restarts after installing VAIO Media.
  • Make sure that you do not run the Installer over a network.

Close all other programs running on your computer.
2.
Insert the storage media containing the Installer into the appropriate drive of your computer.
3.
Access the storage media containing the Installer, and double-click "VMInst.exe".
When running Windows Vista, a dialog box asking for permission to continue appears. Click the Continue button to continue the installation.

Registering Clients
Before using VAIO Media to access music, photos, video, or television broadcasts from other computers, you must register those computers on the server. For details on the registration procedure, see VAIO Media Help.
