This tutorial will show you how to record audio to a track in your project.

Before you begin recording, make sure you have a microphone, tape deck, CD player, or other device plugged into your computer.

Next, make sure that your record settings on your sound device are set properly. You can check what sources (Microphone, Line In, CD, and so on) will be recorded by double-clicking the speaker icon on the Windows taskbar to display the Windows mixer.

In the Volume Control window, choose Properties from the Options menu, and then select the Recording radio button. The Windows mixer now displays your recording input.

For more information about setting up your computer to record from an external source, click here to open the online help.

In Windows Vista, right-click the speaker icon and choose Recording Devices from the shortcut menu to configure your recording device.

When you are ready to record, click the Next button.
