SoundTap is perfect for recording both sides of VoIP conversations - such as those conducted with programs like Express Talk or Skype. Because SoundTap can record an audio stream with perfect digital reproduction, your recording will be exactly as you heard it.

In order to record a VoIP conversation you must check the Record microphone input in the options dialog box. This will ensure that you record the caller and the callee. Alternatively you can click the microphone button next to the record button on the main screen. Note that you can't change the state of the microphone while SoundTap is in record mode. You must first stop recording and then enable/disable the microphone and then restart recording.

Here is a step by step guide to recording a VoIP conversation:

  1. Close down all applications (especially any VoIP software you are planning to use).
  2. Start SoundTap
  3. Click on the SoundTap Options button
  4. In the Devices section check the "Listen while recording" option
  5. In the pull down list next to this option select the physical device through which you will be listening (eg. the sound card to which your headset is connected)
  6. Now check the "Record microphone input" option
  7. In the pull down list next to this option select the physical device to which your microphone is connected
  8. Click Ok to close the options page
  9. Start your VoIP software. (It is very important that you start your VoIP software after you start SoundTap)
  10. Make your VoIP call. Both sides of the conversation should be recorded.

It is important to note that SoundTap will only record microphone input while there is an audio stream. If you are not recording an audio stream, then SoundTap will not record any microphone input. If you need an application which can handle this task you may want to have a look at Record Pad.
