If you have successfully followed all the steps of the installation process then you are ready to make your first recording.
Your first recording
Follow these steps to make your first SoundTap recording:
- Close down any applications you plan to record streaming audio from. This includes web browsers like Internet Explorer.
- Start SoundTap. You should see the SoundTap status window (the dark blue text box). The status window is a useful source of information and SoundTap will often display messages and status updates here.
- Next play an audio stream, such as some internet radio, a CD, or some other kind of audio source using your choice of audio software. You should receive a message in the status window indicating that SoundTap is receiving an audio stream. If you do not receive this message, then there may be something wrong with your SoundTap installation. This can generally be easily fixed with a simple change to the sounds and audio devices section of the Windows control panel. See the trouble shooting section of this help manual.
- To start recording the audio source, click on Start Recording. SoundTap will notify you that recording has started and show the name of the file it is creating. You can change the name of this file later.
- To stop recording, click on Stop Recording. Your file should have now been created.
Note:
Alternatively, you can start SoundTap recording before playing any audio sources. SoundTap will continue to listen for audio sources, but will not actually commence recording until an audio source is started.
As always, if you are in doubt of what SoundTap is doing at any one moment, look at the log window. Any errors or status changes in SoundTap's operation will be printed here.
