This Readme is divided into the following sections: ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) About This Program 2) Before Using the DSD Playback Plug-in - System Requirements 3) Important Notes - DSD Files Playback - Output devices (for example, speakers or headphones) - Volume Adjustment - CD creation with Windows Media Player - Associating the DSF file extension with Windows Media Player 4) Known Issues 5) Legal Notice ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) About This Program - By installing this program, you can play DSD files (extension: *.dsf) on Windows Media Player. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) Before Using the DSD Playback Plug-in - System Requirements - This program is designed to only run on a VAIO computer with a standard installation of Windows Vista and Windows XP. The other systems are not guaranteed. - This program can be run only on a VAIO computer that supports DSD playback. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) Important Notes - DSD Files Playback - DSD files cannot be played on Windows Media Player in the following cases: - When a program other than Windows Media Player plays or records a DSD format file - When Sound Reality is used in the ASIO mode with a program other than Windows Media Player - The sound from this system or another program cannot be output while playing a DSD file on Windows Media Player. - Output devices (for example, speakers or headphones) - Windows Vista plays audio only through devices that have been selected. To view the selected output device for DSD playback: 1. Open the Windows Control Panel. 2. Click Additional Options. 3. Click Sound Reality ASIO Settings. 4. The device shown as the output device for DSD Mode is the currently selected output device. - Volume Adjustment - If an audio device other than Sound Reality is selected as the default device for sound playback, the DSD playback volume cannot be adjusted using the volume adjustment feature in Media Center. Confirm the selected audio device by doing the following: - When using Windows Vista 1. Open the Windows Control Panel 2. Click Hardware and Sound 3. Click Sound 4. The device with the check mark is currently selected - When using Windows XP 1. Open the Windows Control Panel (Below are menus when using Category View) 2. Click Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices 3. Click Sounds and Audio Devices 4. Click Audio, and the device in the Sound playback group box is currently selected - CD creation with Windows Media Player - When adding DSD files, you can create a data CD using the writing function of Windows Media Player. However, this data CD is not compliant with DSD Disc specifications. - Associating the DSF file extension with Windows Media Player - If you install Windows Media Player after installing this program, Windows Media Player will not be registered as the player for DSF files (*.dsf). To make Windows Media Player the default player for DSF files, right- click a DSF file in Windows Explorer, select Properties from the shortcut menu, and, in the window that appears, select Windows Media Player as the program to open DSF files. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) Known Issues - When playing a DSD file on Windows Media Player, visualization of the Now Playing feature is not available. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) Legal Notice "Direct Stream Digital", DSD and their logos are trademarks of Sony Corporation.
