Make a scanned PDF searchable

You can apply OCR (Optical Character Recognition) to a scanned PDF to make it searchable. OCR "reads" bitmap images of text and substitutes searchable text.

  1. Choose Document > OCR Text Recognition > Recognize Text Using OCR.
  2. Select pages and adjust settings as desired.

If Acrobat is uncertain of a substitution, the word is tagged as a suspect. You can check suspects and accept, correct, or ignore the substitutions.
