Sample Pack Contest VI - Scoring Template

Your name/pseudonym: Roi de Janeiro

- Give scores for ALL the songs except for your own (if you

have any.)
- Scores are out of 100, where 100 = faultless/perfect, and

0 = totally void of merit/worst song ever.
- Do not use fractions.
- Commenting on songs is optional.

Some aspects to consider when scoring:
- Sound design: ingenuity with and manipulation of the

source samples, modification of samples to create new

sounds, etc.
- Composition: structure, melody, harmony, rhythm,

basically how well written you think the song itself is,

etc.
- Production: mixing/mastering (balance between

instruments, overall loudness if it's a factor), stereo

field use, frequency spectrum use (good use of EQ), use of

effects, etc.
- Overall enjoyment: simply how much you like the song.
- Anything else you deem important.

consider these elements on a case by case basis, as some

may be more or less applicable depending on the song. how

much you factor each into your scoring is up to you - if

you wish, you may set aside a certain number of points for

each element if it makes the judging process easier for

you, however the total scores are the only thing that will

be relevant in score calculations.

Snare to heavy and its groove is a bit too much.

Composition is nice but could use some climax.

Its a little to weired. Definitely much fun composing but

its too much. Second half gets the drive. Sounds could be a

little brigther, especially the leads in the center. End is

too much again.

Funny sound-design. Drops us in to fast and leaves us again

too fast <- could be cool but I think an intro and an outro

wouldnt be bad. Not so good..

Like it! Probably a little bit too much of the cheesy vocal

Comments:

A bit to much on the vocal samples! To much excitement

while composing? Really like the song as a whole but i dont

like the "bagel" stereo stuff. Should be way more discrete.

And the structure is somewhat hard to understand.

Weird but pretty cool until the first brake. Dont like the

bassy lead sound. A bit boring later on.

Mix is not good. Seems like two tracks at the same time

mixwise. The Speach and "Deep Throat" samples are not

integrated in the song. Like the girl! ;)

The riff is sooo cool? Why dont you come up with a decent

melody? Sound is trashy but i like it.

Sound could be better but is decent. Nice use of the

stereo-field and cool depth!! I really like this one! It

has a structure and doesn't throw samples at the listener.

The levels could use a little tweak especially in the near

end. The End is a little bit too much.. didnt need this

additional part. Still the best song until now!

Some Parts are really cool! Drums could be a little more

present. Mix could improve! Parts could interacte more with

each other! Fadeout is a cheek!

works.. Just the overall structure could be better and the

mixing is not top notch.

Comments:

Ok! You Inverted the Phase of one of the two Stereo

Channels for most of the Instruments!! (Or you used some

weird stereo expander tool on the master wich can cause a

similar effect.) DONT DO THIS! First it destroys the song

if you listen to it in mono, second it does feel unpleasant
to the listener and third it will sound completely

different in any listening environments! A "no-go" if you

ask me!

This ones a bit too long for my taste! But if i listen to

it some more ill probably like it more. Not much else to

bitch about though. Not absolutely stunning but solid for

my taste! Could use some reverb!

Ok.. the beginning was kind of cool in a experimental way

but .. the bananas??? too loud.. and later on the levels
keep on beeing unbalanced and the arrangement starts to be

weird.

Hass some big moments but most of them are not used and

just go by.. if something works you can use it again! The
human brain loves repetition... (if you dont overdo it of

reverb. The song ist solid and catchy. The mix is not so

good but there is much worse in this contest. like it!

First: The tickeling highhat thing kills my brain with

headphones. That said the song is not bad. But its not good

either. You try too hard to be progressive for my taste.

Sounds a bit like musical puberty! On the other hand, if

you want to go for that style of music your on you way!

There is still much ahead though.

Sound is great! Arrangement is a bit unbalanced. It starts

like its going to be 12 minutes long and then just races

throug all the ideas for this 12 minute song. Still a very

I assume the thing you've done to the rythm was your

intention. Still its too much. I would have accepted it as

a matter of style if it wouldn be that extreme. It just

confuses the actual song too much like if you have a guitar

solo and you turn it that much up that you cant really hear

the rest of the song in the background.
