Conditions of Operation 1.1 Computer At least 128MB of memory are required. Pentium or faster CPUs are recommended. When you use the translation memory function, Pentium4 or equivalent CPU and 512MB or more memory are recommended. A display with a resolution of 800 x 600 pixels or more is recommended. 1.2 Disk Space The disk space required to run ATLAS, not including the OS, is as follows. Total: 530 MB 1.3 OS Windows XP (US/JP) Windows 2000 (US/JP) Windows Me (JP) 2. Warnings Please be aware of the following points when using ATLAS V13.0. 2.1 Multitasking Environment ATLAS V13.0 puts a large load on the PC during translation. This may cause other applications to run very slowly. Run other applications as little as possible during translation. 2.2 Setup - The setup folder name for ATLAS V13.0, including the drive name, must be less than 120 characters. - Do not install ATLAS V13.0 in a root directory (c:\, etc.). - The following characters may not be used in the name of the setup folder. (1) # (2) % (3) 2-byte characters - On Windows XP, Windows 2000, ATLAS should be installed by a user with administrator status. If installed by another user, ATLAS may not function properly. - When installing ATLAS V13.0, if you uninstall a previous version of ATLAS, the message "To continue installation, shut down the following applications" may appear. If the "cancel" button is clicked, shutdown/logoff may no longer function properly. If this occurs, carry out the following steps. On Windows 2000: a. Right-click the toolbar and select the Task Manager b. Click the Processes tab c. Select "IKernel.exe" and "Knlwrap.exe" from the list, and click the "End Process" button. d. Click the "yes" button in the "Task Manager Warning" dialog. - When multiple versions of ATLAS are used simultaneously, ATLAS may not function properly. It is recommended that you uninstall earlier versions of ATLAS. - In an environment in which Windows XP SP2 has been applied, a Information Bar is displayed on the Internet Explorer menu bar when the Start Guide is displayed. If the ATLAS Translation Bar is not displayed, click on the Information Bar and click [Allow Blocked Content], and click OK in the dialog displayed. 2.3 Compatibility with previous versions (1) Compatibility of user dictionaries - All user dictionaries created with previous versions of ATLAS can be used with ATLAS V13.0. - User dictionaries created by ATLAS V13.0 cannot be used with older versions of ATLAS. - From ATLAS V8.0 onward, the following user dictionary names cannot be used. - names beginning with a half-size left parenthesis "(" - "基本辞書" - "Standard Dictionary" If you wish to use user dictionaries that fall into the abovementioned categories, use the "Change Dictionary Name" option when you import the dictionary to use it with ATLAS V13.0. (2) Compatibility of Technical Dictionaries - This product can be used with ATLAS Technical Dictionaries V6.0 or later. - The translation memory in ATLAS V12.0 Technical Dictionaries can also be used with ATLAS V13.0. Search speed will be the same as with ATLAS V12.0. (3) Compatibility of translation files - The TRC translation file format introduced in ATLAS V4.0 was altered in ATLAS V6.0. - TRC files created with ATLAS V4.0 or V5.0 can be read with ATLAS V6.0 through V13.0, but TRC files created with ATLAS V6.0 through V13.0 cannot be read correctly by ATLAS V4.0 or V5.0. - If TRC files created with ATLAS V4.0 or V5.0 are opened and saved with ATLAS V6.0 through V13.0, they are converted to the new TRC format. - If you with to transfer translation files between ATLAS V4.0 or V5.0 and ATLAS V6.0 through V13.0, save them in the TRA format. 2.4 Mouse Translation / Key Type Translation - Mouse Translation may interpret data in neighboring cells to be part of the same sentence/word. - With Acrobat and Adobe Reader, Mouse Translation cannot be used, because text strings cannot be properly extracted. - For applications where Mouse Translation cannot be used, please use Clipboard Translation. - On Windows 2000, the focus does not automatically shift to the Translation dialog when Mouse Translation/Key Type Translation is started up, so it is necessary to use the keyboard(ALT+TAB) or the mouse to shift the focus. - Depending on the application, the translation results from Key Type Translation may contain corrupted characters. 2.5 Web Translation (Internet Explorer) - Depending on the selected range, Partial Translation may not function. Change the selected range and try again. - Depending on the your settings, "ATLAS Toolbar" may not be listed in "Toolbars" in Internet Explorer's "View" menu, and a blank entry may appear instead. In this case, carry out the following procedure. a. Click all the checked items in Internet Explorer's "View" menu's "Toolbars" to uncheck them. (Before unchecking them, remember which items were checked.) b. Select "Customize" from "Toolbars" on Internet Explorer's "View" menu, click the "Reset" button in the dialog, and click the "Close" button. c. Restart the system. d. Recheck the items you unchecked on Internet Explorer's "View" menu's "Toolbars". 2.6 Mail Translation - ATLAS only works on the standard form in Outlook. On forms customized by the user or nonstandard forms, the translation bar is not displayed. - On Outlook, rich text or office format mail cannot be translated. - In Eudora, when translating all sentences of received mail, header information that is not displayed in received mail will be displayed. - In Becky!, sent mail and reply mail can only be translated in the original window. In Becky! Ver.2, reply mail can be translated in the reference window. 2.7 Word, Excel, and PowerPoint Translation - When the file to be translated is extremely large, the "Translating" dialog may appear white. If you wish to cancel translation, wait until the display returns to normal. 2.8 Dictionary Management - When downloading the Standard Dictionary from a server, close all other ATLAS applications. 2.9 Additional restrictions for User dictionary names in Translation Server In addition to the regular rules for creating User dictionary names in the client module, there are some additional restrictions when you create User dictionary names if you want to utilize these User Dictionaries in Translation Server. a. Please do not use the following characters for your User dictionary names: "<", ">", "&", """. b. Hyphenation alone ( - ) can not be a dictionary name. 2.10 Translation Memory Tool - When Importing a. TMX Version 1.1-compliant files are supported. 2.11 Text Alignment Support Tool - In order to use the Text Alignment Support Tool, Microsoft(R) Internet Explorer Version 6.0 is necessary. 2.12 Translation Memory Window - In order to use the Translation Memory Window, Microsoft(R) Internet Explorer Version 5.5 or later is necessary. 2.13 Shared Dictionaries ATLAS Shared Dictinary function uses Windows' file and folder sharing functions to save shared dictionaries on a network or PC. 3. Related Products For translation of many technical fields, Technical Dictionaries containing 5.07 million words in 28 fields and 680 thousand sentences of translation memory are available in the Technical Dictionaries Free Pack, and the options listed below. - ATLAS Technical Dictionaries Free Pack V13.0 - ATLAS Medicine/Pharmacology Dictionaries V13.0 - ATLAS IT/Manufacturing Industry Dictionaries V13.0 4. Changes from V12.0 The major enhancements are as follows. (1) Improved translation quality - Focusing on current events vocabulary, the Standard Dictionary has been expanded by 410,000 words. (3) Improved usability - Translation speed in the Translation Editor has been improved. - Translation memory search speed has been improved.(*1) *1) When using memory registered to a user dictionary, or memory included in ATLAS V13.0 products (including V13.0 Technical Dictionaries.) Trial Version Notes - This Trial Version provides all the features of the ATLAS V13.0 English Version. - This Trial Version is available for a period of 30 days after installation. After that period, you will not be able to use any of the functionality even if you reinstall the software. - This Trial Version will expire after October 31, 2007. - You cannot install ATLAS V13.0 with the ATLAS V13.0 Trial Version remaining installed. Please uninstall the ATLAS V13.0 Trial Version before installing ATLAS V13.0. - We do not provide any technical support for this Trial Version. - We are not responsible for any damage that might occur from the use of the Trial Version.
