WPD Device Inspector Tool

[This is preliminary documentation and subject to change.]

SUMMARY

The WpdDeviceInspector.exe application is a reporting tool used to extract information on all aspects of a WPD device/driver, from device capabilities, to content and properties.  It can also be used as a troubleshooting tool for problems that may relate to the capabilities or content that a device exposes.  It produces a report in HTML which can be viewed with a Web browser.

To Run WpdDeviceInspector:

  1. Run WpdDeviceInspector.exe on the command line
  2. It will ask you to pick a WPD device to inspect
  3. After it has finished running, it will produce a report
    1. By default, this is the “DeviceSummary.html” report file in a subdirectory DeviceInfo\DeviceName
    2. The registered handler for “.HTML” files is launched to view the files
  4. There are various command line options available:

Usage:

WpdDeviceInspector.exe DirName /[Snapshot | Report] [/Summary] [/Device:xxx | /AllDevices] [/Quiet] [/?]

DirName:     [Optional] Name of the directory to store the device

information. Directory name is the friendly name

of the WPD device if no directory is specified.

/Report:     [Optional] Generates HTML report for device.  By default,

                        it only dumps summary information.

/Full:       [Optional] Save the all device information, including

                        information for device content.

Only valid with /Report, otherwise ignored.

/Device:xxx: [Optional] Indicates the device to use.  'xxx' should

                        be the device interface name.

If no device is specified, you will be asked

                        to choose one.

If a Report or Snapshot is required for every

WPD device, use the /AllDevices switch instead.

/AllDevices: [Optional] Indicates that the tool should be run on all

WPD devices available on this system.

                        This switch overrides /Device:xxx.

/Quiet:      [Optional] Your registered HTML viewer (such as Internet

Explorer) will not be launched to

view the report.  In /Report mode, default

behavior is to view the report upon completion.

This switch is only meaningful in /Report mode.

/?:                     Displays this help message.

If no switches are specified, "/Report /Summary" is assumed.
